Fashion Palaces

Description

Fashion Palaces tells the story of the rise of the first chic fashion palaces in Amsterdam, which sold luxury ready-to-wear and made-to-measure clothing as well as couture from the end of the 19th century to around 1960. The majestic fashion and department stores Hirsch & Cie, Metz, Maison de Bonneterie, Gerzon and the Bijenkorf are characterised by an ambiance of grandeur and seduction. The visitor to the exhibition imagines herself in a world of fairy tale luxury and wealth.
